Flashback: OR-AS in the early days

Flashback: Those were the days...

From RanGen to ProTrack and P2 Engine

Back in the days, somewhere in the beginning of 2000, the Operations Research & Scheduling (OR&S) group was investigating the impact of the network structure of a project on the performance of algorithms to schedule projects within limited resources.

This research challenge has led to various research projects, two academic papers and a project network generator RanGen. In 2006, OR-AS started their commercial activities, with the research of OR&S as the main foundation.

A few years later, we decided to build this knowledge into our commercial tool ProTrack and - again a few years later - in P2 Engine. However, the original RanGen version is still widely used in academic settings, and therefore, upon request of some Asian researchers, we have updated our RanGen page on the OR&S website (site is still under construction).

Obviously, we recommend to all our users to switch to our latest products. Researchers can use P2 Engine and ProTrack for free. Commercial versions are also available. In 2012, we do a lot more than just creating networks and testing the impact on scheduling, but those were the days where we laid the foundation of OR-AS.
