Welcome to our Operations Research group

Four new students join the world of OR.

Today, four new students joined our OR&S group for a period of 4 years to carry out high quality (hopefully :-)) research in Operations Research, with a focus on Project Management and Personnel Planning and the development of integrative tools for both disciplines. The four new students are, in alphabetical order:

It is worth noting that all 4 students have made their final masters thesis in an "Operations Research" related topic. Therefore, some of them will continue to work on their thesis topic before they start with the real academic stuff. A list of the titles is given below:

  • Linking the vehicle routing problem and the crew scheduling problem: Past, present and future research (Jordy Batselier)
  • Integer programming for cyclic personnel planning (Jonas Ingels)
  • A study of exact and meta-heuristic planning techniques for unrelated parallel machines with common servers in the textile industry (Louis-Philippe Kerkhove)
  • A genetic algorithm for the multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem with discounted cash flows (Pieter Leyman)

We would like to welcome the new researchers Jordy, Jonas, Louis-Philippe and Pieter and we hope that you will hear from them very soon, through the academic papers, the international conferences, the extensions shown in future releases of ProTrack, and much more. More information on the research projects can be found here. A list of our researchers in the OR&S group can be found here. A brief overview of what a PhD really is can be found here.
